Zardozi comes from two Persian words: zar or zarin meaning ‘gold’, and dozi meaning ‘sewing’. Embroidery with gold and silver threads has been prevalent in India since the times of Rigveda, and gained much popularity during the Mughal and its semblance in the form of Zardozi art, the intricate metal embroidery work done on fabrics such as silk, velvet and Satin.
